2023 GMC Canyon: Big on power

The GMC Canyon is one of the most popular models in the mid-size pickup segment. The current generation, offered since 2015, has won everyone over. For 2023, a new iteration is coming, more complete than ever.

Here's what GMC recently revealed about this new edition.

A simplified configuration

In the past, it was possible to opt for different cab and box configurations. In the end, one stood out more than the others, and it will be the only one offered for 2023: the crew cab, the most spacious, with the short box. Interestingly enough, the short box will now have a waterproof storage bin, giving owners even more options.

A unique engine

A unique powertrain will also be available for 2023, namely the most powerful version of the 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that will equip the Canyon, but also the model's cousin, the Chevrolet Colorado. With the latter, different power ratings will be on the menu, but with the GMC representative, only the most competent one will be included. This one offers 310 horsepower and an impressive 430 lb-ft of torque. This will translate into a towing capacity of 7700 pounds. All of this will be channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Driving modes will also be on the menu, especially with the new AT4X variant.

AT4X

Let's talk about the latter. It will offer several driving modes, including one called Baja. What it will allow is high-speed off-road driving. Yes, you read that right.

What you need to know is that GMC is finally going to rely on its version of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Underneath the vehicle, we'll find a raised suspension, Multimatic shocks, skid plates, as well as 33-inch wheels designed for off-road adventures. Up front, a completely different bumper design will allow for a 36.9 degree angle of attack.

And, equipment-wise, the AT4X model will be all decked out with a higher quality audio system, a camera system with 10 different angles, including one under the vehicle, wireless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, as well as head-up display.

This version, along with the Denali, will take advantage of an 11-inch screen for the multimedia system. The other two models, Elevation and AT4, will get an 8-inch screen.

Finally, it should be noted that each variant will offer a distinct style, so that each one will be recognizable on the road.
