2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV unveiled: Chevrolet hits a grand slam

Chevrolet made a big splash on July 18 when it unveiled the all-electric version of the Chevrolet Blazer, a year before its arrival in dealerships. We knew the Blazer was coming, but we hadn't yet seen any official images of the model, other than the pre-production version.

We suspected what it was to offer, but we had no official information to share. This is no longer the case. We don't know everything, but we know enough to draw an interesting first portrait of the model.

Models for everyone

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this new 2024 Blazer EV is the sheer amount of ways it's going to come in. That's what General Motors' (GM) Ultium platform allows for, and we have a great example.

There are four variants on the menu: 1LT, 2LT, RS and SS. We don't know everything about each one, but it will be possible to choose a front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive Blazer. Yes, three choices. We already know that a rear-wheel drive RS model will be on the menu, as well as a full-wheel drive SS version.

The former will offer the best range at some 515 kilometers, while the latter will offer the most performance with 564 horsepower and 648 lb-ft of torque (and a 0-96 km/h time of less than 4 seconds).

Pricing starts at $54,548 and goes up to $59,148, $63,848 and $83,548.

Well-stocked versions

It's not yet known what equipment will be in each version, but a state-of-the-art multimedia system will come to life on a 17.7-inch touch screen. There will be LED lighting throughout, including the vehicle's approach greeting with the RS and SS versions. The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, developed at Cadillac a few years ago, will also be offered as an option. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel will be standard on all models. In short, it promises to be a great experience.

Charging

Finally, we got a few snippets about charging. We know that a maximum of 190 kW will be available from a Level 3 charging station, and that a rear-wheel drive RS model will be able to recover 125 km in just 10 minutes. At home, the power will be 11 kW (level 2 terminal).

The model will also offer regenerative braking.

Style and behavior

If we can judge the model's eye-catching styling, we have to take GM's word for the behavior. The secret is that the low, wide proportions of the Ultium platform, combined with the positioning of the battery pack, contribute to a relatively low center of gravity, which will result in improved stability on the road. And regardless of the drive mode, the independent suspension will provide exceptional comfort and responsiveness.

Yes, the Blazer EV promises. We can't wait to see more.
